Foot orthotics for children – what you need to consider for small feet

Even children can suffer from foot malpositions. We reveal when foot orthotics can be useful for children. As children’s feet are still growing, special attention must be paid to providing them with foot orthotics.

What to consider with foot orthotics for children

From what age can children wear foot orthotics?

In children, pes planus and “childhood flat foot” usually correct themselves as the child grows. Lots of barefoot walking and good shoes support healthy foot development in children. In the early years, it is therefore not usually necessary to intervene to correct this, unless there is a specific diagnosis and the child is in pain. In this case, foot orthotics can achieve good therapeutic results even before the age of six. Take your child to an orthopaedist if they complain of pain or if you recognise signs of foot malpositions. It’s a good idea to accompany the therapy with special exercises.

Which foot orthotics can children wear?

A child’s foot needs foot orthotics that offers freedom of movement, actively supports development and is individually adjusted, because a perfect fit is the most important prerequisite for achieving the desired therapeutic success.

Which shoes are suitable for children’s foot orthotics?

Sufficient space and a removable footbed are crucial for children who wear foot orthotics. If redness, pain and pressure points occur, the shoe may be too small or too tight or the foot orthotics may not fit correctly in the shoe. Ask your medical supply store for advice.
