How long do foot orthotics last?
As foot orthotics are subject to natural wear and tear, it is advisable to replace them regularly. With good care, foot orthotics can last for many months. Over time, however, the support diminishes due to the strain caused by the foot orthotics. It is also time to replace the foot orthotics with a new pair in the event of growth-related changes to the foot (in children) or new diagnoses.
Your foot orthotics must be in perfect condition so that they can provide you with optimum support. Proper care and regular checks of your foot orthotics help to maintain foot hygiene and slow down wear. You should also have your feet examined regularly by a doctor in order to recognise changes at an early stage and initiate medical measures.
My foot orthotics smell: Can I wash them in the washing machine?
If your foot orthotics smell unpleasant, please do not wash them in the washing machine and do not put them in a water bath. To clean and remove odours, please use a damp cloth or sponge, a little disinfectant soap and lukewarm water. They should also not come into contact with disinfectants, solvents or acids, as these not only impair the fit but can also damage the material.
What else can I do to ensure that my foot orthotics last as long as possible?
- Suitable shoes: Only use your foot orthotics in shoes that are suitable for this purpose. Remove the existing foot orthotics and replace it with your foot orthotics.
- Venting: Your foot orthotics absorb the moisture that forms in the shoe as a result of foot activity. If possible, remove the foot orthotics from the shoes after each wear: It is important to allow the foot orthotics to dry so that they can regenerate and remain fresh for a long time.
- Proper drying: Allow the foot orthotics to air dry after cleaning and avoid heaters or other sources of heat, such as a hair dryer. Temperatures above 40 °C can change the fit and damage the materials. Leave them to dry at room temperature or outdoors.
- Regular change: It is advisable to wear two pairs of foot orthotics alternately so that the functional cushions and elements can regenerate sufficiently. A second pair also makes your everyday life easier by allowing you to use different pairs of foot orthotics for different shoes. Replaceable foot orthotics also slow down wear. Of course, you can also purchase additional foot orthotics yourself.
